Jesus Gonzalez, age 30, of Grove, Texas, was stopped just before 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14 in New Rochelle.

The stop happened after Gonzalez was caught driving through steady red lights at two intersections in the heart of the city, the New Rochelle Police Department said.

Police said that during the subsequent stop at the corner of North Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, it was determined that the vehicle’s registration was expired and it was towed away to be impounded.

During an inventory search of the vehicle, police said that a loaded 9mm Beretta 92A1 handgun was found in the front passenger seat, and Gonzalez was arrested.

Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in New Rochelle City Court at a later date.
